Wednesday, September 29, 2010 8:30PM At The Earl
Garotas Suecas / The Selmanaires / Cheap Time

With their first appearance in Sao Paulo City, Brazil, 2005, Garotas Suecas (Swedish Girls) is formed by Guilherme Saldanha (vocals and harmonica), Irina Bertolucci Chermont (organ), Perdido (bass) and the Paoliello brothers Nico (drums) and Tomaz (guitar). Influenced by the soul and R&B masters of the sixties such as Otis Redding and Sly & the Family Stone, the band cannot deny their garage and psychedelic origins shown by the fuzz guitar sounds and crazy organ riffs.

Burning the dance floors throughout the country with their unique brand of rock, the Garotas Suecas are also true heirs of the unique tropical rock sounds created by the brazilian Tropicalia and Jovem Guarda movements of the sixties and early seventies.

The Atomic Rockets Live At The Earl On Wed. June 30, 2010

The Atomic Rockets were formed back in 2006 as an after school, basement band by Tyler, Kaleb & Adam after falling in love with Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins & the like. After a good year spent writing the Rockets soon derived their own form of rock n' roll they've since titled "Rocketbilly".

With the addition of Hellcat Willy on doghouse bass, The Atomic Rockets have been playing tirelessly and have generated a fan base in a short period of time. Taking the boppy sounds of early charting, rockabilly and breaking the mold on 1-4-5 progressions, without neglecting the minor, dark side of Cramps-esque rockabilly, its no doubt why. After playing with non-stop, recording with rockabilly legend Roland Janes, and evolving their sound, The Atomic Rockets have definitely crafted a live show worth seeing and a sound worth hearing.

The Earl is located at 488 Flat Shoals Avenue Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30316-1900

April Smith and the Great Picture Show will perform on Sun May 30, 2010 at the Earl in East Atlanta.

April Smith and the Great Picture Show's Facebook page describes their music like this "combine the dramatic presence of freddie mercury, melodic sweetness of buckley, range and power of ann wilson, smoky sarcasm of tom waits, and the ornate imagination of michel gondry and you’re getting close. sounds good, we know. we call it vocally-driven-cinemelodic rock for short."

Tiger! Tiger! Live At The Earl On April 22, 2010

Formed after the collapse of The White Lights, Tiger! Tiger! is the second out-from-behind-the-drums and up-front band from Subsonics drummer Buffi Aguero.

While Atlanta's Tiger! Tiger! take a love for 60's garage, Velvet Underground and Motown as their inspiration, they manage to not limit themselves to the constraints and dogmas usually associated w/ those genres. The result is a timeless blend of old and new but all rock 'n roll.

See Tiger! Tiger! live at the Earl in East Atlanta on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Visit The Earl for more info.

Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside Live At The Earl on April 18, 2010

Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside will perform on Sunday, April 18th (8:00 pm) at the Earl.

Sallie Ford hails from Asheville, North Carolina, just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Enjoying a musical upbringing surrounded by performers, she grew up playing the guitar and the violin in addition to singing. On a whim, Ford pulled up her Carolina roots and moved across the country to Portland, Oregon, where she has been writing songs since 2006.

She met drummer Ford Tennis and bassist Tyler Tornfelt in 2008, and then a year later met lead guitarist Jeff Munger while he was performing on the streets. Though inspired by the vocal stylings of old jazz, blues and soul singers like Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith and Etta James, Sallie and her three-piece band, "The Sound Outside," also seek a contemporary sound to throw into the mix.

Continuing to enjoy the musical community in Portland, Oregon, Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside self-released their EP "Not An Animal" in May 2009. Their first full-length album is forthcoming, and has a release date planned in Fall 2010.

The Earl is located in the East Atlanta Village. Visit The Earl for ticket information and directions.
