Guided Tour of the Callanwolde Estate – The Phoenix Files On March 13, 2011

Candler. An architectural landmark in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, Callanwolde is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and reflects the  charm and dignity of an historic era.

Callanwolde joins the Atlanta Preservation Center for this annual celebration of historic places, The Phoenix Files – A Citywide Celebration of Living Landmarks on March 13, 2011.

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center Presents Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt on April 23, 2011

Eggstravaganza has been a family favorite for years. Callanwolde celebrates the coming of spring with its annual Easter egg hunt to be held Saturday, April 23, 2011, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.

Eggstravaganza features thousands of candy-filled eggs to find (including three golden “prize” eggs), Atlanta Braves games &  prizes, and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny. There will be baked goods for sale, arts and crafts for kids, as well as a live performance to entertain kids and grown-ups alike. Bring your Easter basket and your camera for a fun, family day amidst Callanwolde’s beautiful spring gardens and grounds.

Parking: No parking onsite. Free parking and shuttle bus service begins at 9:30 at Emory University Briarcliff Campus, 1256 Briarcliff Road, one-half mile north of Callanwolde.

Learn to appreciate authentic Argentine tango. You will learn about the rhythm and movement of Argentine Tango and how to focus on connecting with the music and your partner. Learn how two bodies can move as one. Dancers of all skill levels are welcome and no partner is necessary. The evening begins at 8:00 pm with an introductory lesson from the expert instructors of Tango Rio. After the introductory lesson, you will be ready to try out your new moves with an open tango dance party, beginning at 9:15 pm.

Olde Christmas Storytelling Deja-Vu At Callanwolde Fine Arts Center On January 9, 2011

The Southern Order of Storytellers (SOS) presents “Olde Christmas Storytelling Deja-Vu”, a concert of the Best SOS Regional Tellers. The concert presents tellers chosen from dozens of SOS members who audition annually for this highest SOS honor. Jan Cribbs, Ron Kemp, and Barry Stewart Mann are this year's honorees.

SOS began at Callanwolde in 1983, which is why this concert is marked "deja-vu". There will be a reception following the concert.

Christmas at Callanwolde - Battle of the Ice on December 11, 2010

Chefs from all over the southeast will participate in a spectacular battle of ice carving skills with the winner receiving the prestige of the "Callanwolde Cup".

Atlanta's top ice carving team will head to Alaska in 2011 to compete in the World Championship of Ice Carving. But on December 11 they will be here in Atlanta to present Battle of the Ice at Christmas at Callanwolde!

Mayhem In The Mansion - October 22, 2010 At Callanwolde Fine Arts Center

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center will be the glamorous setting for a fun-filled fundraiser, Mayhem in the Mansion – A Night of Deadly Dealing, Friday, October 22 at 8 pm.

Casino night takes a gothic turn as the Callanwolde Mansion dresses up for Halloween. Enjoy gaming tables, dancing, and treasures from the auction until midnight. Hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer, dessert and coffee will keep you fueled. If you love your costume, wear it; if not, just dress to kill. All proceeds for this event will benefit the Callanwolde Dance Ensemble.

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center offers classes and workshops for all ages in the visual, literary and performing arts. A full range of concerts, literary events, gallery exhibitions and fundraisers complement the center's busy calendar each month. Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is housed in an impressive 27,000 square foot Gothic-Tudor style mansion, which was built by Coca-Cola heir Charles Howard Candler in 1920. The mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Christmas In July: LandingStar Dance Performance At Callanwolde Fine Arts Center

Choreographer Kate Holland’s performance ensemble LandingStar will join forces with other artists and performers to present a light-hearted contemporary dance performance and fun-filled fundraiser on July 11th at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.

Included in the evening of lively entertainment will be David Spencer’s dynamic ballroom dancers and vocalist John Martin with accompanist Mark Walsh, who will perform love songs from the 30’s and 40’s. After the performance, the audience is invited to dance the evening away in Callanwolde’s spacious indoor courtyard. Guests are invited to wear red, white, green or any other Christmas attire as everyone gets a jump on the holiday season and a sneak-peek at this year’s holiday events at Callanwolde.

Summer is a great time to enjoy live Jazz on the grounds of the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Callanwolde’s Jazz on the Lawn series presents special outdoor concerts featuring many of the area’s best musicians with a mix of classic and contemporary jazz, swing, fusion, blues and R&B.

Jim Pearce, Atlanta-based pianist, vocalist and composer, presents tunes that combine hip changes, strong melodies and a refreshing sense of humor. He and his band play in a relaxed, straight -ahead jazz style with killer solos on piano, sax and trumpet – an all-around great band. Bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy these special concerts under the stars.

Eggstravaganza This Weekend at Callanwolde

If you are looking for a fun family event this weekend, Callanwolde Fine Arts Center has one of the best easter egg hunts in town.

Eggstravaganza has been a family favorite for years and Callanwolde celebrates the coming of spring with its annual Easter egg hunt held on Saturday, April 3, 2010, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon on the beautiful grounds of Callanwolde.

Eggstravaganza features thousands of candy-filled eggs to find (including three golden “prize” eggs), Atlanta Braves games & prizes, and a chance to pet live bunnies and meet the Easter Bunny. There will be baked goods for sale, crafts and games for kids, as well as “The Wow Show” performed live by Enzo the Clown in the outdoor amphitheater to entertain kids and grown-ups alike.

Arrive early so you won’t miss the many fun activities. The Wow Show will begin at 10:15. The egg hunts will begin promptly at 11:15 am, and will be set up for three age groups: newborns to 2; 3 to 5; 6 and up. Bring your Easter basket and your camera for a fun, family day amidst Callanwolde’s beautiful gardens and grounds.

In case of rain the event will be canceled.

Arrive early for free parking and shuttle bus service beginning at 9 am at the Emory University Briarcliff Campus, 1256 Briarcliff Road, just one-half mile north of Callanwolde. There will be no parking on-site at Callanwolde. All proceeds benefit the Callanwolde Dance Program.
