The City of Decatur, known for its great schools, shops and restaurants, has now claimed the title of “Most Fit City” according to the organizers of the annual Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run/Walk.
Decatur Active Living teamed up with the Decatur Business Association to sponsor Team Decatur and entered into the annual event. This is the first time that a city has entered as a team.
Team Decatur was 134 members strong by race day and was comprised of city employees as well as citizens and members of the business community. Ages of participants ranged from the teens to a gentleman in his 80s.
Active Living Board member Michael Harbin, co-captain of Team Decatur, summed it up well - “Running/walking is a main focus, but just being there is a major part of community-building which is just as much a focus for me. Meeting all of these Team Decatur people who, each for their own reasons, have chosen to join us is important….” Decatur City Commissioner Patti Garrett was presented with the “Most Fit City” trophy at the awards ceremony following the race.
