The Asian American Resource Center will host its 6th Annual Rice Festival on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Stone Mountain Park’s Memorial Lawn from 11 am to 5 pm.
The Rice Festival will celebrate the diversity of Asian culture and will feature performances by Asian dance groups, singers, and martial artists, games, and cuisine. The Rice Festival is meant to celebrate the diversity of and promote harmonious relationships within the Asian American community.
According to Connie Jee, the Executive Director of the organization, the Rice Festival was created because rice is a main component of Asian meals across countries. "All Asians eat rice. Short-grain, long-grain, basmati and jasmine are just a few examples. Asians each have their own national rice dish," said Jee. Another similarity among Asians, she said, is that rice harvesting occurs in October. "That’s why the Rice Festival is held each October."
As the annual fundraising event for the Asian American Resource Center (AARC), the Rice Festival raises funds for the social and educational services AARC provides to the metro-Atlanta immigrant community.
